I ran with the UML cross country team today

So Nate Jenkins offered to let me borrow a DVD of his, and as we were talking about it yesterday he told me he'd be running an easy 5 today. I decided to join in.

We all left in a pack and I felt very comfortable with the pace. As we went into the woods I found it a little difficult to keep up. The woods were horrible. Leaves everywhere and I wasn't familiar with the trail so I wasn't sure where rocks would come up out of nowhere. The pack started to split as people took their own routes and eventually it was just Nate and myself. I twisted my ankle with a mile and a half to go. Feel bad that I made Nate slow down but he told me to keep it moving and it'll feel better. About 200m later I could start to run normally. It was affecting my stride though. Nate had to get back quick, told me how to get back, and kinda took off. I tried staying with him but the ankle just wasn't doing it. Actually the ankle was pretty much saying "fuck no!" about it. I made it back in 37:07, about 7:24 pace for the 5. Not good but not bad considering the ankle.

The great news is that my fibula didn't bother me at all. I think I actually haven't been going long enough and that's why it still hurts. I'll try to have my runs at 4 miles or more, and hopefully I can run with Nate or the guys more. I've been running solo for a very long time. Even in XC and track last year there was only 1 person that was constantly there with me, but I still did most of my running solo. Junior year was the last time I was able to run in any form of a pack.

I haven't watched Nate's DVD yet but it looks like there's a lot of useful exercises in it, and I'll probably break these up, one section for each day.
