Training 3/23/08-3/29/08

Sun 5mi
shakeout hour solo in the woods. awful mood, really slow. +bike 3.5mi

Mon 9mi
7.4mi kenyan with Neil-last mile in 5:50. 58:09 (7:51). 0.5wu/1cd. +walk 2.6mi.
We missed the turnaround because a street sign was about 15 feet high. We went out at about 8:15's, and picked it up on the way back (most of the time we run together the workout turns into a Kenyan outback). We got going good with 3 miles left and were flying with 2 to go. We hit the track for the last mile and we were flying, pretty much race effort, the last mile in 5:50. Neil passed me with 300m left and finished about 20m in front of me. This was a pretty good run.

Tue 7mi
5mi easy solo. 44:33 (8:55), 2mi cd 20:44. [missed practice for play rehearsal.] I was supposed to go an easy 8 but had plumbing issues, finished up the 5 then went out for 2 more easy.

Wed 8mi
6mi easy solo. 52:47 (8:47), 1wu/1cd. [missed practice for play rehearsal.] Started the run real slow but turned it on towards the end and gave a good last 400m. It felt good to go fast after the easy day yesterday and at the end of the easy run.

Thu 6mi
2xMile tempo with Neil. 5:41/5:56. 1.5wu/1.5cd. I didn't push the second one. Real short on the mileage; had to leave for a ride home.

Fri 10mi
7mi tempo solo. 57:14 (8:11). 1.5wu/1.5cd. splits 8:33, 8:13, 8:18, 8:06, 8:12, 8:08, 7:39. [practice cancelled; coach not in school.]
The past few weeks when I've been increasing my mileage I've noticed that I had lost a little motivation for running. Then I realized it's because most of my mileage comes from slow runs. I look forward to running at practice because I go fast in practice, while when I'm on my own I usually go long and slow. So, I planned a tempo run (albeit 7 miles long but still a tempo run), and it was the right idea. I was really excited to be running fast again. This made me decide that I won't take easy days unless I feel that I absolutely have to. I'll benefit more physically AND mentally. It feels a lot better not dreading running.

Sat 10 mi
AM 3mi shakeout in the woods, some on road. 39:49 really slow.
PM 7.5mi 4mi hard tempo 27:50 (6:57). 2wu/1.5cd. splits 7:06, 7:05, 6:42, 6:55.
After only logging 6 on Thursday I decided it would be best if I made up the mileage by going twice today. I didn't feel that I was going slow at all in the morning, and I'm really confused about the time. I'm pretty sure I only went 3 miles, but that time is even slow for a woods run. oh well, it's only a shakeout..
My original planned second workout is what you see above. However, while at work I felt terrible and thought I'd have to log the 7 miles in an easy run, but when I started the easy run I felt great so I decided to do the tempo 4. Great decision. I was flying. I pushed the whole way and got a pretty good time. This was likely one of my best workouts of the season, I usually only go that fast with Neil.

Week Total: 55 miles.

3 good workouts. I'm getting into training more now. I'm hitting my weekly mileage goals with ease and I just found out that I'm fine with double days. I'm really looking forward to the season now.
